Influencing Consumer Trust and Behavior with Online Reviews

The local marketing landscape has changed dramatically in recent years. The Internet is no longer a secondary component of a successful marketing plan; nowadays a successful local business must put online branding at the forefront of their marketing focus. Leading the way when it comes to Internet marketing are your online reviews and reputation.

I understand that taking time out of your busy patient schedule is a hassle to accumulate reviews. Unfortunately, there is no easy way around it in a consumer driven society, which is constantly looking for verifiable proof of quality and expertise when making buying choices.

By Roger P. Levin, DDS

Most practice owners think about bringing on an associate at one time or another. This is a major decision that will impact team dynamics, doctor income, customer service, referring doctor relations, and potentially the ownership structure of the practice. If you’re at a point in your career when you’re thinking about hiring an associate, here are three questions to ask:

Beware the Threat of Complacency

Posted by Brooke Milligan on May 24, 2017 1:28:49 PM

By Roger P. Levin, DDS

Orthodontics is a relationship business. If you provide great customer service while delivering excellent results, then parents (and adult patients) will tell their friends and family about their experience. I find that most orthodontists and team members do a good job of making parents and patients feel connected to the practice.

But it’s not always easy. There are days when everything goes wrong––patients are late, a co-worker goes home sick, the computers crash, etc.––and it takes every bit of training, know-how, and composure to maintain that high level of customer service.

Texting is the Answer!

In the never-ending challenge of contacting parents, adult patients, or potential patients, consider a transition to texting for quick responses and results! Your target audience is never too busy to check their cell phones throughout the day and many workplaces allow cell phone use, taking the place of leaving messages on home answering machines or the inconvenience of receiving calls at work. Only 41% of over 21,000 households surveyed use a landline in addition to a cellphone per The Centers for Disease Control.

Utilize the Ortho2 texting feature to reach out to pending parents/adult patients and un-appointed Kids Club members. Prospective patients, mined from returned dental referral cards, will be texted via the practice cell.

Meetings: Four Mistakes to Avoid

Posted by Brooke Milligan on Mar 22, 2017 5:00:45 PM

By Roger P. Levin, DDS

Everybody hates them. They waste time, kill morale, and basically suck the life force out of the practice. I’m talking about bad meetings.

At my seminars, I hear many horror stories from orthodontists and team members about the quality of meetings in their practices. Nobody knows the purpose. The right information isn’t shared. One or two people monopolize the conversation. The gathering turns into a giant complaint session.

There has been talk for some time regarding an update to the Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings, 2003. The CDC will not be releasing new guidelines for infection control in dental settings. However, in March 2016, the CDC released their update; a document entitled "Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care and Companion Checklist." The entire document is available online at www.cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/guidelines.

Compared to other dental and specialty offices, ortho practices tend to have larger staffs, more chairs, and a higher volume of patients seen every day. This means that the total cash flow tends to be relatively high, which can make monitoring and controlling overhead more challenging.
