Before you slip into panic mode, let’s achieve a better understanding of what this algorithm update might do, and how it could impact orthodontic website rankings. It All Starts with Marketing

Posted by Lisa Schuelka on Oct 3, 2013 1:53:00 PM

“When it comes to marketing, everything counts.” So begins Dr. Ann Marie Gorczyca’s new book, It All Starts with Marketing: 201 Marketing Tips for Growing a Dental Practice.
Over the past couple of months I have been working with Dr. Gorczyca to move her practice from our original DOS product, OneTouch, to our cloud product, Edge. Working with her was an absolute pleasure and her excitement and passion are contagious. So when I heard she had published her first book I couldn’t wait to dive in, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The book is written specifically for the dental specialty, and yet almost every idea she shares is practical and applicable even to my job today. Dr. Gorczyca divides the book into three sections, focusing on the areas of Internal Marketing, External Marketing, and Relationship Marketing. Each section contains suggestions and actionable ideas for rolling out and implementing her clever tips, proven methods, and common-sense approach.

Doctors, your leadership is the key to practice growth! Let’s breakdown common elements of a successful marketing plan:

  • Determine desired patient flow (New starts and active patients)
  • Appoint a marketing team
  • Track previous year/current year statistics (Referrals, production, etc)
  • Develop strategies
  • Implement a task list
  • Assign a budget

In this blog we will discuss your vision, establishing your marketing team, and initial guidelines for a successful plan.

Your Vision

The Doctor clarifies the flow of patients-patients per day and the preferred number of patient days in each month. Look at your demographic area and set fees based on your patient population. Share your  production goals with your team and create a realistic vision of your practice based on facts. Your Ortho2 software (and correct input) is an integral part of fact gathering and statistical review.

Mobile is ramping up faster than any other technology we have seen in the past – eight times faster than desktop and laptop sales in the 1990s. By the end of 2012, it is predicted that 50% of the US population will have smartphones.
