7 Trainer's Tips for a Successful Edge Cloud Training

Training on a new software can seem like a daunting task. It isn’t something that you or your team members go through very often.

Here at Ortho2, we help train hundreds of offices each year, and we learned how to make it the best experience possible. Recently we sat down with Derek Dohrman, Ortho2 Advanced Support Tech and Lead Trainer, to talk about the ways in which you can make the most of your Ortho2 training.

After You Schedule Your Training

  • Review Your Equipment Needs. You will work with our Network Engineering Team to determine if any of your equipment needs to be updated. While Edge Cloud doesn’t have the most demanding requirements, one area in particular to look into is monitors. We recommend a resolution of 1920x1080 for desktop monitors, and 1600x900 or higher for laptops. It is important to have all of your equipment installed before your training so you can focus on learning Edge Cloud. Also, consider dual monitors for your front desk team members, treatment coordinators, and doctors.

  • Review your modules. Have you thought about adding morphing capabilities to your imaging software or educational videos to show patients? Now is the time to add anything you have been thinking about. It’s easy to say we’ll add that later, and later is usually difficult to come by when your office is bustling with patients. Your office will be closed for a few days, so it’s the perfect time to ensure you have all the software you are wanting, and be trained on it.

Before Your Training

  • Ensure you do not have any patients on the schedule during your training; seeing an emergency patient is ok, however. You will be more successful in learning Edge Cloud when you can focus on learning and not running your office. If you elect to have an on-site trainer, your fourth day of training is a patient day. We recommend a patient load that is half to three-quarters your normal load so you can get assistance from your trainer if necessary.

  • After we grab your data from your converting software, it is essential to keep track of everything you do in your old system on paper. This includes all of the appointments you make, items you have scanned, notes taken during patient appointments, etc. We suggest leaving images on the camera card and waiting to load them into Edge Cloud during your training. Most of your financial information can usually be found by running reports, but if you are unsure, it’s best to still write it down. All of this information will need to be added into Edge Cloud during your training. Just think of adding it as practice on using your new software before you start seeing patients again.

During Your Training

  • Have your decision makers present for the remote setup day. This is the day you will configure the settings and editors in Edge Cloud specific to your practice. It is imperative to get Edge Cloud set up in the way you want so you can focus on training the remainder of the days.

  • Ask questions throughout the training. A reminder there is no such thing as a dumb question. We are here to teach you and help you master Edge Cloud. When we leave, we want you to have the best understanding of your new software. Also, it’s important to follow along with the trainer and not work ahead; it’s likely you will miss important information if you are exploring the software on your own.
